I’ve been a bit quiet on the blogging front just lately, but don’t despair. You haven’t heard the last of Girl on the River. Quick update: my shoulder injury (rotator cuff, if you’re interested in these things) has meant that I probably won’t be rowing again in 2011 (sob). In the meantime, I’ve been doing a tiny bit of running (yikes), a pinch of bootcamp, a soupcon of walking and an awful lot of Christmas shopping.
What’s on your Christmas list this year? Is it all about the sports kit? Will Santa be bringing you a rigger jigger, some energy gels and a pair of wellies? Or are you secretly hoping (girls, anyway) for some killer heels and some nail varnish for those occasional days when you hide the callouses and dress up like a laydee?
Whatever’s on your Christmas shopping list, I’d love to hear about it. Because I can’t really bear to hear about rowing just now.
A kindle!
Good idea! I have one and I love it. Also worth asking for a cover for it that doubles up as a stand so then you can read at the table!
I really have no idea what I want for Christmas – I’d like a Kindle, but my son is getting one and I don’t want to steal his thunder. I would also like a decent phone (a Samsung Galaxy something-or-other), but again, my daughter’s getting one so I should maybe stay clear of that. I’d love a clarinet – but that might be a waste of quite a lot of money, so I’ll stick to the treble recorder.
Could be jumpers again.
Ooh, Tim, I don’t think you should be confined by your kids like that! I’m sure a bit of creative thinking can get you your Kindle. P.S. Step away from the recorder.
Hi Patricia
I have been ‘away from’ rowing since the Monmouth Head in September when I injured my shoulder, one of the rotator cuff muscles no less! I was distraught for the first few weeks but there is life without rowing and I just LOVE lying in on a weekend. I also managed to hurt my ankle too (nothing as exciting as falling off a bar stool I hasten to add!). I have therefore given in, and am going to start again in the spring, when the weather is better!

Oh Julie, that’s too bad! (but yes, totally get the life without rowing thing. So many more hours in the day!!!) We must have a rotator cuff chat (oh, spot the veteran rower!!!) – will email you. Enjoy your leisure time xxx
How about a waterproof camera to help illustrate your blogs or to record those wet winter sessions and head races?
Take it easy with the cuff injury, hope it doesn’t need surgury – that’s a long recovery. Very popular kayak injury.
What a good idea! Apparently my shoulder isn’t torn so hopefully won’t need anything other than rest and time. Does seem slooooow to mend, though…
